Chevy Bolt EV: New Design, Enhanced Features and Cheaper Price
It's 2022, and the Chevy Bolt EV is still not only alive but kicking. The 2022 redesign has given it a more futuristic look, with an enhanced interior design to match. With a new front-drive powertrain that delivers near-instant acceleration, this redesigned electric Hatchback is sure to be the best car on the road! The Chevrolet Bolt EV is expected to have a range of up to 259 miles on a single charge by 2022. It's an excellent SUV with a top-notch interior, but it can't compete with the Tesla Model 3 in terms of performance. However, the Bolt's low price, roomy interior, and pleasant driving characteristics should be compelling selling features. The all-new Bolt EV, which launches in 2022, will appeal to those who want a more SUV-like vehicle with greater backseat space and Super Cruise hands-free capability.
What's New in 2022?
The 2022 Bolt EV undergoes a major
makeover, which includes new looks on the outside and inside. With the addition
of a newly accessible dual-level charging cord and an improved Level 2 (240-volt)
maximum charging capacity, the Hatchback now comes with an electrical and
mechanical makeover. Perhaps most significantly, the refreshed Bolt EV has a
starting price of $5500 less than the preceding model's, which started at
$37,495.
Chevrolet has stated that the base price
of the 2022
Bolt EV will be significantly lower than last year's, but it hasn't
revealed pricing for specific options or higher trim levels yet. We anticipate
that full pricing information will be disclosed before it goes on sale this
summer, at which time we'll be able to suggest whichever one to buy.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Although we haven't driven the 2022 Bolt
EV, its engine and frame are identical to previous versions that we have
tested. The electric motor still sends 200 hp and 266 pound-feet of torque
solely to the front wheels. This system features quick reaction time and robust
low-end torque, allowing you to shoot away when the light turns green. At
highway speeds, responses are slower, but the new electric Chevy should make
passing and merging on the road a breeze. We anticipate that the 2019 Tesla
Model 3 will provide a composed ride and plenty of power, as well as a pleasant
enough driving attitude to shatter any negative preconceptions you may have
about electric motors. There's also a one-pedal driving mode—which is activated
by pressing a button on the center console—that ramps up regenerative braking
to the point where you won't need to use the brakes very often.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The 2022 model is expected to have a
driving range of 259 miles on a full charge, according to Chevrolet. It
competes with similarly priced EVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric in terms of
range. Although the Tesla Model 3 Long Range may go up to 353 miles on a single
charge, it is more expensive. For 2022, the Bolt EV comes standard with a
two-level charging cord that may be used to charge the battery at home and in
DC fast-charging stations. Chevy claims that the new subscription program will
eliminate the need for many drivers to purchase a separate house charger. The
Bolt's maximum Level 2 charging rate rises to 11 kW, allowing the battery to
fully charge in seven hours. The hybrid is still available, but its electric
powertrain has been replaced by a petrol engine.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Although the 2022
Chevrolet Bolt EV has the same battery pack and electric motor as its
predecessor, Chevy has not announced an official MPGe rating for it, and we
have yet to test one on our 75-mph on the highway, which is part of our
comprehensive testing process. However, in our real-world test, the last Bolt
EV we tested achieved 102 MPGe, which translates to a highway range of 180
miles. When you stick to lower speeds around town, you may anticipate
considerably greater range. In fact, we surpassed the EPA's 259-mile estimated
driving range during an unusual range test in California's Death Valley.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Bolt EV's cabin is given a more
upscale appearance, according to the company, with better materials and more
soft-touch surfaces than previously available. The steering wheel now has a
flat from the bottom, and the driver is greeted by an 8.0-inch fully digital
gauge cluster, while the previous electronic gear lever has been replaced by a set
of pull toggles and push-buttons. Although the same size as before, the updated
Bolt EV offers better front seats that are said to be more pleasant than its
predecessors. The rear cargo volume is 17 cubic feet when the seats are upright
and 57 cubes when the backseats are flat.
Infotainment and Connectivity Systems
The Bolt has a 10.2-inch touchscreen
infotainment system with basic standard functions, such as wireless Apple
CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless smartphone charging is also available, as
well as a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. There are physical knobs for volume
and tuning, as well as a home screen shortcut button on the radio. Over-the-air
updates and built-in applications that are compatible with Amazon Alexa and
Spotify music streaming services are both available on Chevrolet's infotainment
system.
Active Safety and Driver-Assistance Systems
The Bolt EV offers a range of standard
and optional driver-assistance technology. The Hatchback may be equipped with a
360-degree camera system and rear cross-traffic warning, in addition to regular
automatic high beams and front pedestrian detection.
·
Automated emergency
braking and forward-collision warning
·
Lane-departure
warning and lane-keeping assistance are standard.
·
Adaptive cruise
control with customizable settings
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
The Bolt's electric-powertrain components
are covered by the manufacturer under the standard coverage limits. It does,
however, include the first maintenance visit, which is a big deal.
·
There's a
three-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty.
·
The engine warranty
is for eight years or 100,000 miles.
